Student Life & Learning
Gifted & Talented Education
Rāroa Normal Intermediate provides programmes and experiences to value and support gifted students… those who perform, or who have the ability to perform, at a level significantly beyond when compared with others of similar age, background, culture, experience, and environment.
Through a coordinated, school-wide approach we aim to develop the students’ strengths and interests and provide a curriculum rich in depth and breadth, at an appropriate pace. The school culture is one where giftedness is encouraged to “surface” in stimulating, challenging environments.
Programmes we offer
Rāroa seeks to develop the students’ talents, which is the use of their abilities or capabilities to attain extraordinary achievement in a particular field. We also challenge and inspire the students to pursue excellence and to develop a passion for lifelong learning.
A variety of programmes are provided throughout the year, across a broad spectrum of learning areas.
An investigative maths extension programme for furthering learning in Maths through inquiry
Extending writing skills and knowledge, collaborating with other able writers and working with writer mentors
Opportunities to consider and express points of view, consider and explore others’ values, and discuss differences while fostering consideration and respect for one another
Learning more about giftedness and developing talent – how to make the most of it and how to lessen the impact of any challenges.
Gifted students supporting each other socially and emotionally
Other in-school programmes: learning with others with exceptional talents
