Student Life & Learning
Sport & Physical Education
To provide a positive environment for students to perform well, gain and retain their enthusiasm for physical activity.
How we provide a positive environment for students to perform well, gain and retain their enthusiasm for physical activity:
Facilities
Rāroa has three Astro Turfs which provide professional quality grounds for multiple sporting opportunities. There is also a football field with high quality goals, rugby field, basketball court and a multi- purpose hall. These facilities are complemented by an extensive range of elite equipment which teachers utilise to provide high quality physical education programmes.
Winter and Summer Sport Programmes
The purpose of our Thursday sports programme is for students of all abilities to have an extended opportunity within a variety of sports. The focus is on enjoyment, active involvement and participation.
In the summer terms, students compete against other classes gaining understanding of a range of sports and games (e.g., 4-way cricket, unihockey, turbo touch, teeball)
The winter terms see the students go out into the community, making the most of the facilities and learning from experts in specialised programmes. (e.g., Squash, Gymnastics, Ten pin bowling, Golf)

We have annual exchanges with Tawa and Hutt Intermediates, each with a different array of sports. Each year we take turns at hosting one of these.
